Chinese speakers are found in virtually every country in the world, and Chinese can be frequently heard on the streets of Australian cities and on Australian university campuses. Reading Contemporary China: a workshop series at The University of Melbourne.

Themes to be explored include: male and female relationships; urban life; minority culture and contemporary China; generational change; contemporary Confucian merchants; and popular culture. Trends in English literature about China, and Chinese literature about the West will be explored.
